Westerstaketsel (The new Ostend pier) – Westelijke Strekdam

The pier of Ostend is perfect to end your day beautifully. You can enjoy the beautiful sunset while the sea is all around. The pier has become a protected monument since 2006, so it has a fascinating history. The current structure dates back to 1888 – 1889 and came about when the former palisade was shifted to the west. The palisade has a length of approximately 650 meters

If you want to take an even longer romantic walk, you can use the Western Breakwater. This is a breakwater made for walking. It has a unique look and a cozy feeling when you walk on it. If you are lucky you can even spot some seals in the sea! They love to swim at the shore and show their moves. Please note! You must not get too close to the seals and respect the distance. After the walk, you can enjoy a drink at the beach bars located close to the Western Breakwater. You can enjoy the sea and the beautiful landscape from the beach bar.
