Beaufort

Since 2003 you can find a large open-air exhibition along the entire Belgian Coastline. Beaufort is an art event that runs from 27 May to 7 November, however certain art pieces will stay for a long time. In Ostend, 7 of these works of art are on display.

The artworks of previous editions can be bought by the participating coastal towns. These are: De Panne, Koksijde, Nieuwpoort, Middelkerke, Oostende, Bredene, De Haan, Blankenberge, Zeebrugge, Knokke-Heist. Together, these pieces of art form the permanent Beaufort Sculpture Park, which now includes 40 pieces of art. They remained in their original place or were given a new one.

Each year there is a different theme around which the artworks are made. Last edition 2021, the theme was about how humans are the subject to the will of nature. The works are based on local stories, from both natural and human history. The artworks bring new perspectives on a familiar local setting, letting us look at a familiar place with fresh eyes.

There is a visitor’s guide available that includes more information about the art and its location. It gives you the address, as well as the nearest stop of the coastal tram and the walking and cycling network. On the website of Beaufort, you can find more information about the pieces of art and their locations. The visitor’s guide can be bought in a Tourist Information Offices along the coast for 1 euro.
