Bruges is worldwide known for its charming lace stores. The deft hands of thousands of women and girls earned Bruges lace worldwide fame. The lace tradition started in the 16th century. Very soon, the lace craft became protected. In the mid-19th century.
Bruges had the highest number of lace schools in Flanders. It’s mostly women who made it. Now It’s still possible to see traditional Bruges lacemakers at work.
